"He's settled in very well and cared for. My Husband has been in Hengist Field Nursing Home since October 2014. After suffering a massive stroke in January, he has no capacity whatsoever. But on entering Hengist Field I have seen him laugh instead of cry. Obviously he has good days and bad but I know he's settled in very well and cared for."

"It almost felt like a visit to a Hotel – the Home was very clean, tidy, light and airy. I would obviously rather not be writing these comments, but, following a sever stroke at the end of February 2014, my Dad then spent eight months in hospital before moving to Hengist Field at the beginning of October 2014. Our initial visit to Hengist Field when looking at Nursing Homes was an extremely positive one, with the receptionist being very helpful and willing to answer all of our questions. It almost felt like a visit to a Hotel – the Home was very clean, tidy, light and airy. The staff are very helpful and Dad seems to be building up a rapport with them. This is certainly helping him to settle in. There are plenty of activities on offer plus a resident Hairdresser and a Cinema Room."

"The entertainment is very good and this has been the making of my Mother. Our experience of Hengist Field – the Home is kept lovely at all times and the decor is beautiful. All the carers are very caring with the residents and respectful of their situation. Mum’s bedroom is very tastefully decorated with a toilet and shower. When she came to Hengist Field they kept a close eye on her for the first few weeks. The entertainment is very good and this has been the making of my Mother after braking her hip, because she loves singing."

A message from the Manager
Hello, my name is Tina Dawson and I’m the Manager of Hengist Field Care Home in Kent, Sittingbourne. I have been the Manager here at the Home since July 2013 and I think it is a great place to live and work. Hengist Field Care Home is the newest Care Home within Nellsar. It is three years old and the design fits in beautifully with the surrounding Kent countryside of Oast Houses and orchards. We have first-class facilities here that our residents enjoy, as well as stunning gardens and a spectacular courtyard sensory garden where some residents enjoy growing soft fruits in the summer, and sitting to have lunch under the sunshades.
All the staff here in the Care Home work so hard because they love caring for our residents. We pride ourselves in promoting a caring, family-orientated atmosphere, where we extend the support to friends and families of our residents. We recently started a Support Group for our residents and their friends and family, which takes place one evening a month, and we invite a speaker from a specialist group (for example, the Parkinson’s Society or the Alzheimer’s Society) and then enjoy a refreshment and a chat afterwards.
We like to make each day different for our residents of our Care Home. Our Activities team are always planning something different. Every week we have a different activities programme, which may include; exercise classes, musical mornings, coffee mornings, arts and crafts, musical therapy and pat dog therapy – to name just a few. Our Cinema room plays a “film of the day”, which runs twice a day every day – so our residents can enjoy the nostalgia of popcorn and an old movie. In the summer, we have barbeques every month, with live music – it’s an opportunity for residents, relatives, friends and staff to get together and enjoy each other’s company.
To ensure our residents’ happiness and comfort at all times, we have relatives and residents meetings whenever required. We meet in the Cherry Lounge and talk about how we can continue improving on all aspects related to living in the Care Home, then we take action. We implement any new activities, or ideas, or menu suggestions, and then we meet again to discuss how well these were received.
We feel part of village life here in Borden. The local Church Bell Ringers often visit the Care Home in Kent, and this Christmas, the local Carol Singers are coming to entertain us for the evening. We also regularly take our residents to the local tea-rooms where they can meet their friends and relatives. With our own Mini Bus, we are able to take residents on various trips out including fishing trips.
Here at Hengist Field Care Home, we look after people with a wide range of complex illnesses, and we work alongside other health professionals who are experts in their field, to ensure that we consistently deliver the highest levels of care – tailored to each individual. We would love to show you our Care Home and caring staff – please feel free to give us a call or just drop in for a chat.
