A message from the Manager
Hello, my name is Nicola Masters and I’m the Manager of St Winifreds Care Home in Kent, Deal. I have worked as a Registered Manager for over 28 years and first came to work for Nellsar in January 2011. I am very proud of the facilities that we are able to provide and the excellent care provided by my dedicated, qualified Deputy Manager and staff teams. I have managed this Care Home for almost 6 years and am continually improving its reputation and raising the levels of the services we provide.
First and foremost is the wellbeing of the residents whom we care for. The way we do this is to ensure their quality of life is the best it can possibly be. The care that we provide is of the highest standard and we always strive to keep the Care Home as family orientated as possible, while ensuring relatives and visitors can visit the Care Home seven days a week and without restrictions. I also actively encourage our residents’ friends, family and visitors to seek me out with any concerns that they may have.
St Winifreds nestles in the beautiful seaside town Deal, which is easily accessible by residents and their families. We are perfectly located should anyone wish to pop out to do some shopping or have an ice-cream on the seafront and watch the world drift by. Or if they prefer not to venture away from the Care Home, our own well-established and pretty garden is always at their disposal, with seating areas and wheelchair pathways to allow for ease of access.
All of our staff teams have very good relationships with not only the residents, but also with their friends and families. We pride ourselves on forming strong communication links and a friendly rapport – this ensures that our residents remain central to our focus at all times. Relatives will actively seek out certain staff members from the teams that they feel they can talk to the best, about their particular family member.
I firmly believe we offer the best care possible when compared to other Care Homes in the area. I am very proud to say that there is a strong element of trust between our staff members and our residents’ relatives, and I believe this is not always the case within other Care Homes.
We offer a vast and varied range of Activities for our residents within the Care Home, six days a week. Our Activities are based on what the residents like to do. For example: bingo, art therapy, craft work, seated exercises, exercises to Music 4 Health, reminiscence sessions,sing-a-longs; Pimms afternoons, cream tea afternoons, shows and musical entertainment. We can also offer in-house Dentistry, Hairdressing, Optical Care and Chiropody – further enhancing the quality of care for all of our residents.
We never miss an opportunity to celebrate – any occasion! We always make a big fuss about our residents’ birthdays and anniversaries, and calendar events such as Easter and Christmas. The wonderful thing about these occasions is the full involvement of all of the staff and residents of the Care Home in Deal, having a genuinely wonderful time.
Throughout 2016-2017 we have been busy redeveloping areas of the Home to further improve what we offer to our residents. The garden has been extensively redesigned and now incorporates a beautiful decked area with raised garden planters and seated areas. The inside of the Home is also being re-furbished with two new communal shower rooms, new flooring within two lounges and several corridors as well as various bedroom upgrades. The kitchen has new flooring and we have overhauled and reviewed our mealtime services, further improving them for residents and their visitors.
As Manager of the Care Home I recently made the decision in 2017 to change the registration of St Winifreds and feel it is now time to offer General Nursing Care to meet the changing needs of our community, therefore widening the services and what we have to offer. Please visit the Home for a tour of our new General Nursing Unit.
I love my job as St Winifreds’ Manager. Our Care Home in Kent is a happy Home with a wonderful atmosphere and an extremely caring staff team. Please feel free to pay us a visit for a chat about your care needs – I am sure we can help. You could spend some time looking around the Care Home and enjoy a bite to eat and some light refreshments with us.
