Abbotsleigh Care Home is located near Staplehurst, a short distance from the train station, in a rural location, at the end of a leafy, tree lined avenue. Abbotsleigh is a Care Home in Kent providing Nursing and Residential care for people with a diagnosis of Dementia. Refurbished in 2014, this modern, purpose built Home offers well equipped accommodation and outstanding amenities in both the Nursing and Residential Units, which are staffed by a team of dedicated and highly skilled nurses and carers. The team is supported by the Administrator, Activities Co-Ordinators, Housekeepers, Onsite Maintenance Person and the Catering Team.
Abbotsleigh Care Home is conveniently close to public transport links. Residents are allowed to bring their own furniture with them when they move in, and their pets to keep them company. Most rooms have en-suite facilities. The Home features specialist lifting and bathing equipment, lift access to all floors and wheelchair access throughout. We have a busy Activities timetable for those wishing to take part. We also organise regular external entertainers and we have access to a Mini Bus to enable us to take trips out with small groups of residents. Abbotsleigh provides a varied, healthy and plentiful menu that is very popular with residents – catering for special diets and soft food diets.
As well as regular GP visits to the Home, residents can benefit from a range of Professionals who regularly visit the Home, including: Alternative Therapist, Chiropodist, Dentist, Dietician, Hairdresser, Optician, Physiotherapist, Specialist Nurses and Speech therapist.
Nutritional Therapy
Nellsar is one of the first Care Home groups to employ a Nutritional Therapist and introduce individual consultations and Nutritional Champions across the Homes, putting the holistic and nutritional health of our residents first. A combination of nature and science, Nutritional Therapy “acknowledges the kitchen as the medicine cabinet” and is extremely important to the elderly, particularly those in Residential Care with Dementia or specific health conditions or illnesses. Well-Being Team
We also have our very own Well-Being Team dedicated to making a difference to the lives of all Nellsar residents through nutritional balance, nurturing touch, compassion and empathy. Dementia Care
At Abbotsleigh Care Home, our staff are specially trained to care for residents with Dementia, enabling them to deliver the best care while maintaining dignity, choice and compassion at all times. Our aim is to consistently maintain independence for our residents. We also liaise with outside Dementia specialist Nurses, GPs and other professionals.
End of Life Care
We also provide End of Life Care, which is individualised and person-centred according to the choices, preferences and wishes of each resident and their families. We provide effective pain management and comfort for residents at all times. Meaningful activities are provided to ensure interaction with our residents throughout every stage of their life, and we have great relationship with local hospices and healthcare professionals. Many of our residents have lived with us for a long time, however some join us exclusively for End of Life Care.

When first arrived was placed upstairs, he was kept in bed. Was told it was his choice. I expressed my concerns about spending too much time in bed and asked for him to be got up every day and sat in a chair with other residents, which was taken on board. After about a month he was moved downstairs. He is up every day and sat in the lounge with everyone. Care is excellent. Spent time observing staff – they are very caring and do a brilliant job. Dad always looks clean, clothes are always clean and ironed. Overall as a family, we are happy to see dad being looked after so well. Thanks to everyone at the home!

My mother was resident at the care centre for four years and always received excellent care. My sisters and I were always kept fully informed of any health issues, and the staff were always friendly and helpful. On the day of my mother’s death, we were treated with sympathy, respect and helpfulness by all staff members and given adequate time to be alone with our mother we were then offered advice concerning legal and other necessary procedures to be adopted.

My mother has just spent six months on the residential side of the home – sadly passing away there a couple of days ago. I could not have been more pleased with our choice of home – the care that she received was first-class in a genuinely caring, family type environment, where she and all the other residents were treated with the utmost compassion and dignity. I visited my Mum on a daily basis and could see at first hand that nothing was too much trouble for the staff and that included everyone – from residential and nursing staff to cleaning, laundry, catering and admin. I see this as a huge credit to the way the home is managed by the respective team leaders in residential and nursing and of course managed overall by the very professional registered manager. The staff are exceptionally well trained and genuinely enjoy working with the elderly and this is reflected in the warm, happy ambience that you immediately feel in the home.

A message from the Manager
Hello, my name is Alina Abagiu and I’m the Manager at Abbotsleigh Care Home in Kent, Staplehurst. We are a Dementia and Nursing Care Home in Kent, Staplehurst and we would like to invite you to pay us a visit. Our Care Home is beautiful building, combining ‘old’ character with newly refurbished facilities. Abbotsleigh is set among lovely, landscaped surroundings – an altogether peaceful, and tranquil Care Home.
Our care team are passionate about supporting our residents with all levels of Dementia and Nursing needs through person-centred care and personalised care plans. We have 58 single rooms in our Care Home – the majority of which have en-suite facilities. Having recently undergone extensive refurbishments in recent years, they are spacious, bright and airy, with pleasant picturesque all-round views.
Abbotsleigh Care Home has two units – Red Admiral with 29 beds and the upper floor Holly Blue with 29 beds. We also have a Sensory and Stimulation Room that is used by the Health and Well-Being team alongside our fantastic Life Experience Co-ordinators. We encourage the families of our residents in our Home to personalise their rooms with familiar belongings to create a ‘home-from-home’ environment, enabling their independence.
The Home has two main dining areas and two main lounges. There is also an Atrium that can be facilitated to families and or visitors to have a more “private” time with their love ones.
We actively encourage residents and their families to become involved in the decisions surrounding their care in our Home. This helps us meet their needs through individualised care plans which are continually adjusted as personal care needs change. The care teams in our Home are all experienced in managing the care needs of many health and social care issues and we liaise with a large network of other health care professionals. We welcome families and friends to visit us at anytime and we encourage open communication.
