We’ve been enjoying lots of one-to-one time with our residents this week at Abbotsleigh Care Home, listening to music and chatting, and enjoying crafts activities.

We had a Zumba session with Donna, which is always lively and uplifting for our residents, who enjoy dancing and throwing our pompoms around to music!

We took a lovely trip out to Millbrook Garden Centre and Café for a spot of lunch and a walk around the garden centre to browse the Easter decorations and gifts.

Tickled Pink Productions came to visit us and put on a fabulous theatre show called ‘Musical Wonderland’, which filled our Home with music and smiles. They group are so involved with our residents and always give a great performance.

Our resident Pearl enjoyed celebrating her 89th birthday on Wednesday 10 April. Her family visited and she had cards, presents and an amazing rich chocolate birthday cake!

We’ve been enjoying lots of craft activities this week, both for Easter and our upcoming ‘Bond with me’ event.

Poppy’s Nephew, baby Harry, visited us this week, as well as Esme’s granddaughters. This brought so many smiles, as they played in front of our residents and with them, which was great fun.

Our residents really enjoyed creating some wonderfully colourful Easter bonnets, complete with egg nests, chicks, rabbits, ribbons and feathers! It was great fun seeing them being worn around our Home. They also crafted some lovely bunting to decorate our communal areas, using an array of different Easter-themed craft papers.

Easter isn’t Easter without an egg hunt, so we decided to get in early! We held an egg hunt with our residents and their families. Everyone had great fun in our garden in the sun, and loved searching for the hidden chocolate Easter eggs.

We always love to have a busy calendar of activities here at Princess Christian Care Home and we’ve been enjoying a wonderful array of outings and special events over the past few weeks.

Outings

We enjoyed taking some of our residents to a tea dance in our local town, which is always great fun and enjoyed by all. We have also visited the beautiful cathedral in Guildford for a coffee concert, which was wonderful. As well as this, we have enjoyed some lovely spring strolls at our local lake and park, now that the weather is improving.

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day was a huge success on Sunday 31 March, with all our ladies being presented with baskets of flowers and treated to some delightful chocolate treats. We all enjoyed our lovely singer Najwa performing for us – she was brilliant as usual, bringing her uplifting spirit into our Home.

Green fingered fun

We have now started work on our gardens, with the support of Pam, one of our resident’s wives, who has helped us tremendously. Our residents have chosen which plants they want to have in our garden and some take it in turns to help water them daily. Our little herb pots are coming along beautifully.

Country of the month

We have reintroduced Country of the Month here at Princess Christian and last month was Spain, so we enjoyed sampling delicious Spanish treats – from tapas to sangria. Cosmin our Chef was a great help, preparing and cooking all of the Spanish delights. A huge ‘thank you’ Cosmin, you’re a star!

This month our country will be France so we are looking forward to croissants, vino and French cheeses – yum!

Musical Gym

We now have a musical gym session twice a week (due to popular demand!). These are run by our Physiotherapist Leo and our ladies and gents are really enthusiastic about it. We should have the fittest residents around!

Penpals meet up

We were delighted to host our first meeting with our 10 school penpals who have been writing to our residents since Christmas. It was super to welcome the children and the event was a great success, with cake decorating and arts and crafts on offer to enjoy together. Our residents are very much looking forward to meeting up again soon.

Easter and beyond…

We are all really looking forward to the Easter weekend and have been busy here making Easter bonnets and cooking up delicious Easter treats, including chocolate rice crispie cakes.

We shall be adding some new activities to our calendar over the next few weeks – ice-skating and bowling to name a few – so watch this space!

Our residents at Lukestone Care Home were visited again by the ‘fluffies’ and reptiles from Wild Science last week.

Wild Science is an organisation that brings collections of small animals into Care Homes for residents to hold and interact with.

It makes such a difference to some residents, to be able to stroke or hold small animals. We ran the session in our lounge, but made sure that we included those in bed too, so everyone got to enjoy the experience.

Our ladies and gents always anticipate the arrival of the animals and get so much out of their session with them, which provides comfort and relaxation, as well as the opportunity to chat about animals and reminisce about pets from the past.

The Wild Science animals – which this time included a frog, a snake and a very friendly black rabbit – are always well behaved and are enjoyed by all our residents, whether they choose to hold and interact with them, or simple look at them.

Thanks Wild Science, we look forward to seeing your wonderful creatures again soon!

We’ve enjoyed some special times recently here at Woodstock Residential Care Home, with a nice mix of activities for our residents to enjoy.

Happy birthday to Joan

On Monday 8 April our resident Joan Perrins celebrated her 74th birthday. She had a beautiful homemade cake made by our cook, which she shared with family, friends and staff. Many happy returns Joan!

Tunes of the past with Kelvin

We welcomed singer Kelvin to our Home on Wednesday 10th of April. Our residents loved singing and dancing along to his repertoire of hits from the 50s and 60s and everyone loved reminiscing about the old songs as he performed. We all thoroughly enjoyed the show – come back soon Kelvin!

Namaste Day

Thursday 11 April saw our ‘Namaste Day‘ arrive at Woodstock, complete with foot spas, hand care and relaxing music, as well as a fruit bowl and delicious smoothies to enjoy. Our residents really appreciated the special treatments and calming atmosphere. They also enjoyed having a chat while being pampered.

Easter colouring

Our residents took part in themed arts and crafts on Thursday 11 April, in the run up to Easter. Our ladies and gents enjoyed colouring Easter egg pictures and having a chat as a group as they shared materials.

We’ve had an uplifting week of games, crafts and music here at Lulworth House Residential Care Home.

Nursery children visit our Home

We love welcoming nursery children to Lulworth and our recent young visitors from a local nursery interacted eagerly with our residents which was lovely to see.

The children loved playing an alphabet and picture game and were very good at giving choice to our residents as they played together. The game started with a child offering a box of alphabet blocks to our residents to choose from, then the children gathered in a group to learn which alphabet block related to each picture on the board. Our residents loved it when the children were encouraged to clap to celebrate each others win in the game.

The second game started with the children offering a bag of rubber animals for our residents to choose from, then asking why they liked that particular animal. For the next stage of the game we wrote the starting letter on the back of a picture of the animal and the children copied the letter on a large piece of paper as a group exercise. It was super to see them so engaged and concentrating.

We also enjoyed some singing together, which always brings so much joy. Our favourite finale song was finished with the actions to ‘Row Row Row Your Boat‘. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their time together.

Easter egg painting

As Easter is fast approaching, we thought we’d get creative with some seasonal arts and crafts. Our residents were engrossed and relaxed as they painted and decorated eggs for Easter, using a variety of colours, ribbons and decorative gem stickers. The session encouraged our ladies and gents to chat to each other in a group about Easter and the Spring. We are delighted with our finished eggs!

Our talented pianist

We have very much enjoyed listening to one of our residents play our piano recently. We have encouraged her to show us her musical skills and entertain us with her cheerful smile and natural talent. A real treat for us all.

We were delighted to welcome our friends from the local church to Lulworth House Residential Care Home on Wednesday 10 April.

They held a very cheerful service leading towards Easter, with lots of wonderful singing which joined our residents together spiritually as they all knew the words.

The volunteers gave an uplifting presentation and ran a flowers quiz using photos. Our residents found it a truly heart warming activity to be a part of.

Many thanks to our lovely ladies from the church for their wonderful contribution to the well-being of our residents.

Our residents at Woodstock Residential Care Home have been very busy creating our ‘Wishing Line’ this week for our Home.

Each of our ladies and gents have coloured in a paper jumper and have made a wish that they would love to come true.

Here are some of the wonderful wishes our residents have made:

  • “to meet Michael Buble”
  • “be a baker for the day again”
  • “travel to America”
  • “learn how to swim”

We’ll add their jumper and wish to our Wishing Line and are hoping to do our best to make them come true, even if it means bringing the wish to Woodstock.
