A busy month of activities and outings at Princess Christian Care Home

From farm trips and fruit kebabs, to Guildford Cathedral and a summer BBQ!

Here at Princess Christian Care Home we have really enjoyed the recent spell of lovely weather and have been spoilt for choice with all the different cold beverages being served throughout the day – from slush puppies to iced teas and coffees.

We have had visits from our wonderful singer Najwa and as usual, all our residents sang and danced along with her.  We also welcomed a group of our local school teenagers and their teacher Sam. We are delighted that they will be coming back in September and fundraising for our Home each week.

During the month, we took a group of our residents to visit a garden centre with a mini farm. The trip was a huge success with our ladies and gents; the farm chickens were very tame and loved to be stroked and the guinea pigs were a delight, bringing back lots of memories for our residents about what pets they had growing up. One of the best moments was when our lovely Doreen had a cuddle with an alpaca and they both had the same hairstyle! The trip was finished off with some homemade chocolate brownies and lemonade in the farm’s café corner. We have already booked to go again, as we had so much fun!

We enjoyed another outing to Guildford Cathedral last week for their monthly coffee concert. We filled up our minibus as this trip is always so popular! After tea and cake we were serenaded by local choirs, who we sang along with to songs we knew. As always – a fantastic experience in a beautiful setting.

Our Cooking Club here at Princess Christian has been busy during July making fruit kebabs (very healthy), with some dipped in chocolate (not quite so healthy, but one has to have a treat!). The group made mini fruit flans and we had some very impressive designs – our resident Bob proved to be a real dab hand at this! We also made mini fruit jellies in plastic cups which we left in fridge until the afternoon, when we handed them out to all our residents as a cooling treat.

Birthdays this month were celebrated by Bernard P, Yvonne C, Patricia C, Geoffrey M, Violet G and last but not least Jacqueline C. Each had a delicious celebration cake made by our talented chefs. Delicious!

A highlight of the month was a BBQ held in our gardens for our residents’ families who support our Friends of Princess Christian charity group. We had a fantastic turn out of guests, including friends we knew from years back, which was lovely to see. The music for the party was provided by our new PA system, kindly supplied by our Friends Charity. It was a great opportunity to test it out – and wow what a difference it made! We had residents and children alike taking turns to sing for us and even our Manager Mario showed off a few moves too!

Our catering team laid on a scrumptious spread of burgers and chicken, served along with various yummy side dishes, and the dessert table was kept very busy with visitors! We made Pimm’s to share (using mint from our garden) which went down very well!

All in all we’ve had a fantastic July, full of entertainments and fun. We look forward to the fine weather and good times continuing throughout August.
