There’s nothing more British than fish and chips ‘ freshly cooked and piping hot. According to historic-uk.com, Both Lancashire and London stake a claim to being the first to invent this famous meal ‘ chips were a cheap, staple food of the industrial north whilst fried fish was introduced in London’s East End. In 1839 Charles Dickens referred to a ??fried fish warehouse? in his novel, ‘Oliver Twist’. It was apparently Joseph Malin who first opened a fish and chip shop in London, in Cleveland Street in 1860.
Fish and chips is an ever popular lunch eaten among families and seaside go-ers ‘ instantly recognised as British throughout the world. To honour one of our favourite meals here at Abbotsleigh, we held a themed lunch event of good ole fashioned fish and chips on Friday 5 June. We decorated the dining rooms with Union Jack bunting and flags, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their delicious lunch, and the sultana sponge and custard for dessert too!
Our chef works extremely hard to provide locally sourced, hearty meals and a menu with a wide variety of choice.
