A thumbs up from Abbotsleigh Care Home

From animals to automobiles…

Residents at Abbotsleigh Care Home began last week with a fascinating nail art activity on Monday 2 July, hammering nails into a block of wood, and then threading coloured rope around the nails to create interesting images.

“We made a feather, a love heart, a sailing boat and the Eiffel Tower”

Cath, the Singing Sweetheart, sang for residents in the afternoon on Tuesday 3 July. She brought along her little

, who received lots of cuddles and love from the residents. The team at Abbotsleigh aren’t sure who’s more popular – Cath or Elsa!

Thursday 5 July was a wonderful day – Abbotsleigh welcomed a few horses from Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) into the Home – residents absolutely loved petting them. As someone forgot the carrots, the horses enjoyed eating their plants instead!

A small group of staff and residents visited a local fish farm in the afternoon where they ate an alfresco lunch on the decking next to the beautiful lake. Not even a downpour of rain could put a stop to their fun – they stayed despite the wet weather and continued to laugh and enjoy every moment.

Tickled Pink Productions, an entertainment company especially for Care Homes and schools, performed ‘The Swell Party’ for residents on Friday 7 July. Residents and relatives had great fun joining in with the 1950s songs and reminiscing about ‘the old days’. Refreshments of tea, strawberries and ice cream went down a treat afterwards.

On Sunday 8 July, Abbotsleigh residents were very happy to welcome the Morris Minor Club and a range of their cars from the 50s to 70s; The vintage vehicles made a wonderful display outside the front of the Home. Residents were shown around the cars while engines were cranked up, hooters were hooted and many memories were made. John, an Abbotsleigh resident, remembered he once had a similar car and the registration started with BB.

And last but not least, Alex and his wife Jackie celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last Friday – congratulations to you both. What a wonderful week it was!
