Author Sylvia Bryden-Stock visits Nellsar Care Homes

Throughout November, a number of our Homes have been delighted to welcome author Sylvia Bryden-Stock to talk about her two books which describe her and her husband’s dementia journey.

Sylvia is a regular visitor to Princess Christian Care Home in Surrey and her husband has been a resident there for a number of years. She runs a Carers Coaching Academy and is an advocate for dementia awareness in general.

Her first book ‘The Rocky Road of Naughty Neurons: Our Journey with Young Onset Alzheimer’s Disease‘ explains the journey she and her husband took when he was diagnosed with the condition. The second ‘The Rocky Road of 24/7 Care: Sylvia’s Ups and Downs and Positive Learnings Along the Way‘ highlights the journey they embarked on when entering nursing home care.

Sylvia visited Abbotsleigh, Hengist Field, The Old Downs, Sonya Lodge, Lukestone, Woodstock, Lulworth House and Bromley Park Care Home, taking copies of her books with her to give to each one.

She spent time talking with residents and staff about her and her husband’s story and how she coped with the changes to her life. She very much enjoyed her time with the relatives groups she met and talking to those facing up to their own journeys who were keen to learn from her experiences.

Thank you Sylvia for taking the time to visit so many of our Homes – the copies of your books will be invaluable to us and our families.
