Caterpillars to Butterflies at Woodstock Residential Care Home

Over the last month at Woodstock Residential Care Home, we have had some new pets. We purchased some caterpillars at the end of April. To start with, they were very small, in fact, most of our residents could not see them as they were so tiny!

Daily, we watched them grow into bigger caterpillars and eventually they were ready to crawl to the top of the pot and hang from the lid, turning into chrysalises.

Our residents watched with interest waiting for the butterflies to emerge from their chrysalises. After about a week, the first butterflies appeared.

We all loved watching them flying around and watching them feed. After a few days, some of our residents helped release the butterflies into our garden, watching them fly around for a while and landing on some of our bushes.

Our ladies and gents really enjoyed the whole butterfly life-cycle experience and would love to do it again.
