Chinese celebrations at Loose Valley Care Home

We were turned into ‘Little Chinatown’ on Tuesday 5 February here at Loose Valley Care Home, to celebrate the start of the Chinese New Year – 2019 being the year of the Pig.

We welcomed 5 Chinese dancers into our Home which created a wonderful atmosphere. They looked stunning in their matching outfits.

Our residents enjoyed dressing up with an array of colourful Chinese props and enjoyed watching the dancers, especially when they used swords! They also performed a Tai Chi dance with large red fans. They danced to some beautiful Chinese instrumental music and were truly mesmerising to watch.

We were all truly ‘taken to China’ and immersed into a different experience and culture – we even sampled some delicious Chinese nibbles, prawn crackers and dips. A brilliant time was had by everyone.

To top it all, we learnt how to say Happy New Year in Chinese – “Gong Xi Fa Cai!”

A very big thank you to our volunteers Jackie and David Grant who arranged for the superb dancers to visit our Home and provide such a memorable morning of entertainment.
