Dementia Action Week Celebrations at Princess Christian Care Home

On Friday 24 May, the Honourable Mayor of Surrey Heath, Councillor Robin Perry, visited our residents and staff at Princess Christian Care Home as part of a nationwide Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Action initiative.

Councillor Perry spoke about the invaluable contribution of all social care carers and thanked all our carers for their positive input into the health and social care sector, and to the wider community.

Our Home Manager Mario Taherian highlighted the importance of educating people about Dementia and how this can really improve the lives of people living with the condition.

Dementia author and Secretary of Friends of Princess Christian Sylvia Stock was very active throughout the week, hosting a number of ‘Speak to an Expert‘ sessions, providing support and guidance for many carers and family members, as well as fundraising.

The Honourable Mayor presented Awards to our best performing carers over the last 3 months. Congratulations to Manish Gurung, April Smith and Solange Martins who were all commended for their commitment and hard work.

Our residents, relatives and staff all celebrated a successful week-long campaign with music and dancing, and of course, lots of cakes! As usual, the party was complemented by a delicious buffet provided by our wonderful catering team.

Highlights of the week’s events at Princess Christian included:

  • ‘Ask us anything about Dementia’, run all week by Nisha Leo
  • ‘Speak to an Expert’ sessions, run from Tuesday to Thursday by Sylvia Stock
  • Dementia volunteer opportunities throughout the week
  • Dementia resources on display at our Reception during the week
  • Fundraising cupcake sale organised by Sylvia Stock
  • Friday’s celebration event to mark the success of all the week’s initiatives

All money raised during the week will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society UK.

Thank you to everyone who came to support Dementia Action Week at out Home and help make the event so successful.
