Fabulous fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support

Our wonderful Recreation & Well-Being Manager Vivien Stead went on a cake-tastic adventure on Friday 28 September in aid of fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of their annual “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” event.

Macmillan are one of Nellsar’s chosen charities for 2018 that all of our 13 Care Homes throughout Kent, Surrey and Essex have made special efforts to support. Each Home held a special coffee morning inviting residents, friends and relatives to join in and have a coffee and cake for charity!

The awesome Kitchen Teams in our Care Homes baked and iced special cakes with the Macmillan logos as part of “Guess the Weight of the Cake” competitions and played fun games including “Place the Cherry on the Cake”, “Guess the Length of the Sausage Roll” and “Guess the Name of the Teddy”. The Homes held raffles and tombolas with great prizes to entice as many donations as possible.

Viv attempted a round-robin to all 13 Homes on the day and she managed eight! That’s a massive achievement considering the usual frantic Friday traffic. Of course, it was part of Viv’s plan as “Chief Taster” to try a cake at each Home as part of the ‘bake and decorate’ cake competition…The results speak for themselves!

Here’s what Viv had to say after her cake-fuelled travels:

“Well what a fantastic day of fundraising! You lot never cease to amaze me with your creativity and your passion for making life fun for the people you care for. I’m so sorry that I didn’t manage to get to everybody today, I was scuppered by the Friday traffic!

This is is such a worthy cause and I’m sure from the heavy boxes I’ve seen today that a lot of money has been raised. I have really loved every cake that I had today I think the last one might have just to me over the edge!”

A massive well-done to all the staff teams at all the Homes for hosting such great coffee mornings and making a charitable cause so much fun for your residents!
