Keeping active and birthday celebrations at Abbotsleigh Care Home

Our residents love to keep active here at Abbotsleigh Care Home and they’ve certainly been busy recently!

David W was particularly ‘handy’ around our Home last week. He and Poppy swept and de-weeded Abbotsleigh’s entrance area in time for gardening day on the following weekend. Cups of tea and pastries were consumed every 20 minutes ….they needed to keep their hydration and energy levels up!

David helped Esme and Poppy on gardening day, after our bath planter was painted bright orange, we started filling it with soil, followed by planting the plants and giving it a very good water!

Whilst David was outside planting he was looking at all the cars in the car park, and asked if any of them needed a wash – so we got the hose, bucket of soapy water and we got cleaning my dirty car! Thank you for all your help David!

Two of our ladies enjoyed celebrating their birthdays. Vera had her 81st birthday, she loved her birthday cake and the staff singing to her, she was full of smiles and joy all day. She was over the moon when her family arrived, with another cake! June S celebrated her 84th birthday, she had a lovely cake in bed with the staff singing ‘Happy birthday‘ to her. Many happy returns ladies!

We welcomed Peter Kneebone to Abbotsleigh who entertained us all with his music – Kumari and Dorothy L danced whilst Peter performed 40s, 50s and 60s songs in the lounge.

We had fun on our ‘Kids at work day’ when the children of staff came in to our Home. Ken S particularly enjoyed watching the youngsters paint and giving them advice. The kids were asking him to touch the wet paint and as he did he had the kids in giggles because his hands were messy! The children spent the day interacting with all our residents, whether it was talking or playing with them. This brings pure joy to our Home and we look forward to our next one.
