Loose Valley Care Home hosts a day at the races

We had a fantastic day of fun here at Loose Valley Care Home on Thursday 20 June, as we held our very own ‘day at the races‘ for our residents.

We recreated Ascot Race Course from an impressive combination of green felt, brillo pads and cut-out coloured horses stuck onto lolly pop sticks!

To get into the spirit of the day we got dressed up and all wore fascinators. Our Recreation & Well Being Champion, Paula, even made some of the fascinators, to make sure all our ladies could look the part!

We staged the racing in our lounge. Our ladies put their names next to the horse they wanted to win and on the roll of the dice, we moved the horses forward step by step. We had 6 horses racing on the green and we provided a little commentary as they went along the track.

Our Recreation and Well-being staff decided to name the horses. The names chosen were Silverpoint, Valley, Hengist, Meyer, Sonya and Lulworth. I wonder where we got those names from?!

We awarded prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places – these were chocolate treats, so they went down well! We ran several races, so everyone got a prize.

As part of the day we ran a horse race quiz too, which was good fun and got our brains ticking! We also served a delicious cream tea, with scones, cream and jam, along with fresh strawberries – yum!

It was such a great day and we all had a wonderful time together.
