Mad Hatters for Macmillan at Meyer House Care Home

Macmillan Cancer support Coffee Morning

In true Meyer House spirit, the Manager (Gill Redell) and her crazy staff team at the Care Home in Erith, went all out for Macmillan’s “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” on Friday 28 September.

Mad Hatters

Everyone made a tremendous effort with Alice in Wonderland themed fancy dress costumes, and many ‘mad hats’ were designed and made by our very own residents and Recreational staff.

“How about a nice cup of tea?”

The Tea Party spread was second to none – residents and visitors indulged in beautifully iced cupcakes, uniquely decorated with Alice in Wonderland style clocks, cards and hearts; The centrepiece ‘Mad Hat Cake’ (made by a member of staff) stood tall on a chequered board, decorated with an edible Alice and playing cards; And Gill made a delicious Mars Bar cake – perfect with a large cup of tea!

“Curiouser and curiouser!”

The Tea Party was made even more special by the effort that went into theming the cake table and dressing it with a chequered table cloth, teapots and teacup bunting, Alice and teapot cake stands, Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum plates, Alice serviettes, sweeties and fine bone china tea cups and saucers.

“A mad day by mad people, but loads of FUN!”

Our residents also enjoyed a few fun games of bingo and a “Guess How Many Sweets in the Jar” competition. Along with a raffle and some great prizes, and many generous cake and monetary donations, we raised a whopping £513.40!
