Nellsar Homes celebrate Nutrition and Hydration Week 2023

Nutrition and Hydration Week takes place every March and aims to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in the provision of nutrition and hydration across the globe.

This year it ran from Monday 13 to Sunday 19 March and our Nutrition and Wellness Manager Leni Wood teamed up with our Recreation and Well-Being Manager Viv Stead to bring the event to the forefront of everybody’s minds across Nellsar, highlighting how crucial good nutrition and hydration is to the health, well-being and happiness of our residents.

Leni and Viv devised a week planner for our Homes to use if they wished – with hints, tips and scrumptious recipes for tasty treats to tickle our residents’ taste buds, along with some fun activity ideas:

Nutrition and Hydration Week 2023

Mocktail Monday – make a Shirley Temple or two and enjoy a game of drinks pong.

Tasting Tuesday – with all things aromatic, herby and spicy to boost the appetite. Try some food tasting games.

Wednesday is ‘Global Afternoon Tea Party’ – try some enticing finger foods and why not pick a theme?

Thirsty Thursday – get those lollies on your trollies to encourage hydration.

Fruity Friday – packed full of fibre, get creative and crafty with fruit!

Sundae Saturday – create your own Knickerbocker Glory.

Viv commented: “Nutrition and Hydration Week shines a spotlight on improving nutrition and hydration in our Homes and we encourage our teams to have fun and make it all about the importance and the pleasure of food and drink. It’s a great opportunity for our Recreation and Well-Being staff, our Nutrition Champions and Catering staff to come together to create a week full of all things tasty!”

We were delighted to see so much creativity and colour over the week, with some fantastic food and drink on offer. Fruity mocktails were a particular hit with our residents, as were the ice lollies and ice cream sundaes! And delicious afternoon teas are always a winner – we saw some impressive cakes!

There was also lots of opportunities to stimulate the senses with (blindfolded!) food tasting and ‘guess the herb’ activities – really bringing the textures, scents and flavours of food to life for everyone.

Thank you to all our staff who went above and beyond to make the week so delicious!
