Nellsar in Bloom unusual flower container winners announced

At the start of the summer we launched Nellsar in Bloom – a celebration of gardening and all things outdoors, aimed at bringing our residents and staff together in a love of the garden and wildlife.

During July we were excited to see the second of our themes running in our Homes. The challenge was to ‘create an unusual/imaginative flower container‘. It could be hanging or free standing, make use of an unusual pot or planter, incorporate objects or ornaments, or be designed and built from scratch.

All of the entries we received were truly amazing and so creative! We had a mangle, a toilet and a bath, an umbrella and wellies, a light fitting, a caravan, a zimmer frame, a bed, Henry the Hoover, an oven and many more!

After much deliberation, cogitation and admiration, the Nellsar in Bloom judging panel, lead by Recreation and Well-Being Manager Viv Stead, came to a (very difficult!) decision. We are delighted to announce the following winners:

  • 1st Place  – Abbotsleigh Care Home

Themed garden planter at Abbotsleigh Care Home

  • 2nd Place – Tanglewood

Themed garden planters at Tanglewood

  • 3rd Place  – Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home

Themed garden planters at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home

A huge ‘thank you‘ to everybody who joined in with the spirit of this fantastic celebration of the garden. We were delighted to see so many residents and staff really enjoying the challenge and having fun.

Prizes will be sent to all our winners. Congratulations again!

This month, our theme is ‘Themed garden‘. Be it a large or small-scale idea, we’re looking for colourful, fun and creative garden ideas, indoors or out. Themes could include ‘seaside’, ‘cottage garden’, ‘red white and blue’, ‘herb’ or ‘gnomes’!

We can’t wait to see the entries!
