Nellsar Right Royal Jubilee Garden Competition winners announced

Back in June, we were excited to launch our Jubilee-inspired gardening competition across our Nellsar Homes.

Residents and staff, family and friends were all encouraged to get involved in the ‘Right Royal’ competition to spruce up their Home’s flower beds, pots and hanging baskets to make them fit for royalty! All in the name of getting outdoors together and having some fun!

Our judging criteria were based on the following:

Creativity: How well the Jubilee theme had been executed in the garden design.
Collaboration: How well our staff teams worked with and included residents.
Presentation: How well presented and eye-catching the garden looked.

Winners

We are delighted to announce that after careful consideration of all the wonderful entries and photos, our judges – Nellsar’s Operations Director Glenda Osmotherly and Recreation and Well-Being Manager Viv Stead – have chosen our three winning gardens:

FIRST PRIZE (£200) – Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home

‘The centrepiece of this wonderful garden was the pergola made into a crown and a beautiful Union Jack flowerbed, designed and grown by the residents. Congratulations on first prize!’

SECOND PRIZE (£100) – St Winifreds Care Home

‘St Winifreds’ garden featured painted pots, patriotic blooms and a decorated royal throne. The London Eye and London taxis and buses nestled between the beds. Fantastic creativity!’

THIRD PRIZE (£50) – Silverpoint Court Residential Care Home

‘An eye-catching garden created with our Queen at the heart of it. Chairs of gold fit for royalty, waterfalls and birds. A fabulous space full of nostalgia, with some lovely seaside touches.’

Runners Up

All our other Homes that entered the competition also deserve a huge ‘Well done!’ for all their hard work and inspiration. Congratulations to them all for their wonderful garden designs:

Abbotsleigh
Stunning purple Jubilee hanging baskets in their front gardens. The giant regal crown and colourful, themed flower beds and Union Jack decorations in the rear gardens are just perfect!

Bromley Park
A wonderful way to personify the Queen’s legacy and a fabulous array of accessible gardens for Bromley Park’s residents. The Queen would be very impressed at the time and effort put in!

Loose Valley
The mini gardens are a great way to spread the Jubilee joy and what a creative and colourful idea to illustrate the royal theme with painted pebbles. Well done!

Lukestone
Involving their residents in the planting and watering of their colourful flowers was a lovely way to include them in this fun competition. The royal gate is the perfect backdrop for afternoon tea too!

Princess Christian
We couldn’t think of a more regal way to illustrate the Jubilee theme than with a garden afternoon tea. A gorgeously colourful display of flowers makes this the perfect picnic hamper!

The Old Downs
The beautiful and colourful flowers really bring the pots and planters to life and the purple is a perfect Jubilee match. Well done to everyone involved – enjoy your gorgeous garden!

Woodstock
We can tell how much Woodstock’s residents enjoyed the creative preparations and getting involved – what an awesome end result. A delightfully colourful installation to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee!

Commenting on the entries, Viv Stead, Recreation and Well-Being Manager at Nellsar, said:

“Our Right Royal Garden Competition has come to an end with three very well deserved winners – Sonya Lodge, St Winifreds and Silverpoint Court.

It was as always so difficult to pick our winners. We will always look for as much input from our residents as possible and as much fun too!

Thank you to everyone who took part this year, with the heat and hosepipe bans it has surely been a challenge to which everyone has risen. Our Homes have created some absolute masterpieces in their gardens; a lot of creativity and flair, and many a lovely party!

Glenda and I were privileged to be the judges for this and we both thank everybody for putting so much effort in as always.”
