Nellsarvision Song Contest brings uplifting music and party vibes

Eurovision becomes ‘Nellsarvision’

In April we launched our very own ‘Nellsarvision Song Contest’ in the run up to the Eurovision Song Contest which was hosted in Malmo, Sweden at the weekend.

We invited our teams, residents, and family members to stretch their vocal cords, whip out their musical instruments and get singing – to enter a song of their choice to be judged by our Recreation and Well-Being Manager Viv Stead along with singer Kevin Walsh, who is a regular performer in many of our Homes.

Viv Stead, Recreation and Well-Being ManagerKicking off the launch, Viv wrote:
“What will your song be? A 50s classic, a traditional choir performance, an ABBA tribute, modern pop song or even your Home’s own creation? The choice is yours. Simply video your Nellsarvision performance and send it in for judging. Oh and dressing up for the occasion is a must! We’ve given time for everyone to tune up and rehearse – we can’t wait to see and hear the entries. There definitely won’t be any ‘Nil Points’ in this contest!”

Video entries

We were thrilled to received 15 videos from nine of our Homes, who gave it their all to impress the judges with their music, costumes, decorations and performances. Viv and Kevin loved seeing so much colour, energy and fun.

Viv said: “Music is incredibly beneficial for the soul and so important in the lives of our residents and this really came through in the videos we received. It’s been said that ‘Music is the universal language of mankind’ – the engagement of so many of our residents, teams and loved ones is a real testament to this.”

The results are in…

Singer Kevin Walsh After much deliberation, Viv and Kevin came to their final decision, with Kevin commenting:

“Well what can I say? Such talent across all of the Homes. I really enjoyed viewing all of the videos numerous times as they were all brilliant in their own way. It was a very hard decision!”
