Physiotherapy for Residents at Princess Christian Care Centre

Princess Christian Care Centre now offers optional Physiotherapy for all residents, for an extra charge of £50 per week.

As we grow older, our ability to move freely can easily diminish. This can be caused by health problems, or by a specific injury. Physiotherapy can help alleviate pain or discomfort, improve mobility and even restore fitness and make day-to-day activities easier. It can also help improve mobility after surgery or medical treatments and help avoid the transition to full time care and dependency.

For a small fee, residents will be entitled to twice a week sessions with our Physiotherapist, who will continually assess and work with them to maximise their physical function.

Our Physiotherapist will want to learn about the individual’s physical capabilities and what they wish to do, how they can function with a particular ability or disability, and the support they might need. Our Physiotherapists are able to holistically identify cognitive, social environmental and emotional barriers, and address these with the resident, or make further suggestions about what the next most appropriate care service may be.

In our Home, Physiotherapists also work with Nurses and Carers to maximise each person’s independence, function and quality of life:

Q: What will happen when my parent or relative sees the Physiotherapist?
A:
At the first session, the Physiotherapist will talk to them about their problems or ailments. They will also do a physical examination to assess your relative’s flexibility, strength and range of movement. Next, they will devise a care plan individually tailored to suit their needs.

Q: What will treatment include?
A:
If it is decided that treatment is required, this may include:

  • Exercise therapy to improve strength, mobility and balance
  • Pain management
  • Advice on managing a particular condition
  • Walking practice indoors/outdoors
  • Stair practice
  • Teaching relatives and members of staff – helping strategies or handling skills
  • Advice on walking aids. For example, walking frames or walking sticks.
