Princess Christian Care Home are supporting World Alzheimer’s Month

“We’re set to raise £5,000 throughout September for the Alzheimer’s Society”

Princess Christian Care Home, located in the beautiful village of Bisley near Woking, is one of the largest and most popular Care Homes of its kind in Surrey – caring for the elderly and people with a diagnosis of Dementia. The Home is recognised and accredited by Investors in People (Gold) and The Gold Standards Framework (Platinum).

Every three seconds someone in the world develops Dementia. September is the World Alzheimer’s Month. Each year, national Alzheimer associations, people with Dementia and advocates across the globe will join together by raising awareness of Dementia in their own country throughout September. In 2015, around 850,000 people in the UK were already affected by the disease, with numbers set to rise to 1 million by 2025. A further 40,000 younger people will also be affected, and 25,000 people with Dementia are from black and minority ethnic groups. The more we know about this disease, and how it is changing our loved ones, the better.

For many years, Princess Christian Care Home and the Friends of Princess Christian; a voluntary non-profit organisation of residents, relatives and staffs, has been conducting regular events promoting Dementia awareness and raising funds supporting Dementia research.

This year, we have decided to take on the exciting challenge of raising £5,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society during World Alzheimer’s month – September. For that, we have organised a series of events from raffles and tea parties to pub quizzes and music shows.

The Care Home is anticipating support from all of our residents (past and present), families, staff, local community and businesses – in one way or the other – to help us to meet our declared target of £5,000.

At Princess Christian, throughout September, Dementia expert staff and volunteers will be available to share their knowledge and skills about Dementia Care through workshops and presentations. The Dementia workshops at Princess Christian are to be led by Mrs Sylvia Stock, RGN ONC SCM NDN Health Ed Cert. Mrs Stock is a Dementia expert and a published author, including ‘The Rocky Road of Naughty Neurons’, which explains the journey she and her husband embarked on when he was diagnosed with the Dementia.

All of the collected funds will be handed over to the Alzheimer’s Society (Surrey region) on Friday 21 September by Cllr. Dan Adams, the honourable Mayor of Surrey Heath and our chief guest for the event.

Everyone is welcome to visit the Home, attend our events and share in celebrating the success of our biggest ever Dementia campaign.
