Following our Nellsar mini cruise adventures in Thailand and Greece during January and February, our final virtual travel destination was stunning South Africa during the week of 17-21 March.
Safari themed tours seemed to be popular in our Homes and we were delighted to spot an array of exotic (but friendly!) African animals as our residents explored this beautiful country. Our teams surpassed themselves with creative African displays and wildlife decorations, not to mention some impressive handmade safari jeeps. Loose Valley even played sounds of the savanna (crickets, birds and whispers of the wilderness at dusk) for a fully immersive experience!
Themed arts and crafts were popular too; residents enjoyed making African headdresses and musical shakers, colouring themed pictures and painting African masks. Lounges were decked out with South African flags and Woodstock’s garden boasted an Africa hut and beautifully painted displays.
Fact-finding was a must in many of our Homes, as we learned lots of fascinating information about this popular destination, and traditional Africa music was also a big hit, with some impressive dance moves to be seen!
Our ladies and gents were of course treated to the delightful flavours of South Africa, with themed menus including Bobotie (spiced meat dish with an egg-based topping), Bunny Chow (curry), Geelrys (a classic rice side dish), Boerewors (South African sausage) and Melktert (traditional milk tart). These mouth-watering dishes were the perfect backdrop to our South African adventures, bringing vibrant flavours to life from a truly fascinating country.
What a memorable week packed full of South African fun! Huge thanks to our creative Recreation and Well-Being Teams and amazing Catering colleagues for all their hard work in making this Nellsar cruise one to remember!
