Whats On In and Around Dartford

Dartford is the principal town in the Borough of Dartford, Kent, England. The town is situated on the border of Kent and Greater London, bordering the London Borough of Bexley. It also borders the Borough of Thurrock, Essex, via the Dartford Crossing of the River Thames and Gravesham to its east. The town centre lies in a valley through which the River Darent flows, and where the old road from London to Dover crossed: hence the name, from Darent + ford. Dartford became a market town in medieval times and, although today it is principally a commuter town for Greater London, it has a long history of religious, industrial and cultural importance.

The Orchard Theatre

The Orchard Theatre is a 956-seat receiving theatre in the centre of Dartford. It was built by Dartford Borough Council and opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent on Thursday 14 April 1983. The theatre hosts a range of popular music, comedy, family, dance, drama, classical music and variety events, as well as an annual pantomime. We like to take small groups of residents on outings to the theatre and these outings are always very popular.

Central Park

Central Park comprises 26 stunning acres, ranging from beautiful formal gardens, to ornamental areas, to wide open spaces and play areas. The picturesque River Darent runs along the park’s eastern boundary. Each summer at least 45,000 plants are used to create stunning colourful bedding displays and the park hosts numerous events, particularly in summer, including the popular Dartford Festival in July, and cinema nights. Central Park is a popular spot for outings and we like to visit parks and outdoor spaces as often as possible.
