Care Home on Canvey Island
Silverpoint Court has the enviable location of being situated at the tip of Silverpoint Marine on Canvey Island. Residents in this Care Home on Canvey Island enjoy far-reaching and scenic views of the Thames estuary and the Marina itself – all from the lounge. Regular trips out, in the Home’s Mini Bus, are enjoyed to the coastal and historic town of Southend, as well as other local beauty spots. The Home caters for up to 33 residents – mainly single occupancy rooms, although companion rooms can be arranged when required. Having recently undergone refurbishment, Silverpoint Court offers light and airy accommodation set over three floors – all wheelchair accessible using the lift. The Care Home is staffed by a team of dedicated carers, who are supported by the Administrator, Activities Co-Ordinator, Housekeepers, Onsite Maintenance Person and the Catering team.
Silverpoint Court Residential Care Home residents are allowed to bring their own furniture with them when they move in, and we encourage everyone to make their room their own, with familiar personal items from home. The Home features specialist lifting and bathing equipment and we have a busy Activities timetable for those wishing to take part, including regular visits from external entertainers. Silverpoint Court provides a varied, healthy and plentiful menu that is very popular with residents – catering for special diets and soft food diets.
As well as regular GP visits to the Home, residents can benefit from a range of Professionals who regularly visit the Home, including: Chiropodist, Dietician, Hairdresser, Optician, Specialist Nurses and Speech therapist.
Nellsar is one of the first Care Home groups to employ a Nutritional Therapist and introduce individual consultations and Nutritional Champions across the Homes, putting the holistic and nutritional health of our residents first. A combination of nature and science, Nutritional Therapy “acknowledges the kitchen as the medicine cabinet” and is extremely important to the elderly, particularly those in Residential Care with Dementia or specific health conditions or illnesses.

My mother has been a resident at Silverpoint Court for a few years, she has Alzheimer’s and by choice prefers her own company, so does not participate in the many activities and entertainment provided. She does, however, always have a smile for ‘all’ the staff who pass her during the course of the day, whilst carrying out their various duties. In return, they greet her affectionately both verbally and physically.

I found the home very friendly. Staff were kind and considerate. I will certainly come back next tear, placement team permitting! My wife can go away and know that I am being looked after properly.
RL, respite resident, October 2017, Silverpoint Court Residential Care Home in Canvey Island.
My mother received outstanding care in the above home for nearly four years. In all of that time, I have visited at various times and all the staff no matter what the time, were efficient, pleasant and patient. I cannot praise the staff enough for the outstanding work they do.

My mother has been at Silverpoint Court Residential Care Centre since May 2017. I looked at about 20 homes before I chose this one. Silverpoint Court Residential Care Centre is so homely, all the carers are so friendly and they really care, you feel at home there. I feel my mum is well looked after. It was a really hard decision to put mum into a home but I think I made the right decision – I would recommend this home to family.

I physically (and through websites) checked out every care home in the area before I decided on this one for my mother. My mum is precious to me and only the best is good enough. I spend a lot of time with Mum and witness every day the staff here caring for her like she was their own mum. I have complete peace of mind and confidence whilst Mum is here. Mum and I both consider all of the staff here to be our Silverpoint family. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Silverpoint Court is well run and food is good. Staff are friendly and generally home is clean and comfortable. However, at times, there is a shortage of staff. Also, there is a lack of activities for the more mentally alert residents.

On discussion with home manager today I have discussed my issues on food. I was unaware that my father who is resident was offered a choice of dinners (he never said and I stupidly never asked!) We have agreed with the manager and my father he vacates his room at least once a week for a thorough clean (as he never leaves his room long enough) My view re his care etc. still remain as excellent. I still feel that the rooms need decorating!! This is an updated review and I wish I had discussed my issues earlier with management as the manager has always been very approachable.

The staff are very helpful and always have a lovely smile. Care home manager is very approachable and is keen to discuss any problems we may have. The residents rooms need decorating and some look quite tatty with chipped paint as is some of the fittings and furnishings in rooms. Food is not as varied as I feel it should be and there are many days my dad just has soup for dinner. I cannot fault the staff who are always very caring.

A message from the Manager
Hello, my name is Jacqui Shuttleworth and I’m the Manager of Silverpoint Court Residential Care Home. I have worked in the care industry since 1991, and in this Care Home since February 2017 and it is with great honour that I can say how proud I am of being part of the remarkable team here. Each and every member of the team recognises that their role is unique and important in maintaining Silverpoint Court’s reputation for excellent quality care and support for the people using our services, and this is reflected in our CQC rating of ‘Good’ across all areas, which was awarded in December 2016.
We are very proud of our Home and the services we offer. We understand what a difficult decision it can be to place a loved one into a Residential Care facility for the first time, and we pride ourselves in making new people to our Home and their families feel comfortable, and at ease. We also understand how first impressions count – a friendly face and greeting at the door, hospitality, and a calming atmosphere and environment inside.
Our Home is located within a quiet residential area of Canvey Island, with lounge areas offering panoramic views overlooking the Thames Estuary and Essex Coastline. We have 33 single rooms – of which 3 have been renovated to include en-suite facilities.
We encourage prospective new people and their families to spend a day in our Home – to sample our Chef’s culinary delights, and to take the opportunity to have a chat with other people living at Silverpoint Court, with team members and visitors and share in their experiences of the Home.
Our focus is to provide a service that promotes independence, and encouragement for people to maintain close links with the wider community. We embrace the concept of person-centred care and it is central to all that we do. We recognise that each new person coming to live in our Home has a treasured history. Each person has chosen to leave their home, where they have valued possessions and a lifetime of memories, and our aim is to help them continue on their journey, making new, equally valued memories along the way.
Armed with as much knowledge as possible about the people living in our Home, our staff teams go out of their way to consistently deliver the highest possible levels of care, comfort and support. People living at Silverpoint Court and their relatives are encouraged to be involved and proactive in decisions that are made about their care, activities, events, the Home environment and anything else that affects them and their Home.
Life is varied at Silverpoint Court. We host regular entertainment and parties for people living with us. We enjoy celebrating birthdays and festivities, and friends and relatives are always welcome to join and help us create wonderful moments. We have our own Mini Bus which is used for outings to areas of local interest.
We strive to deliver what we promise, and for improvement, and we welcome suggestions as to any way we could improve the services we provide for your loved ones.
Please feel free to call me on 01268 515 564 for a chat and more information, or to arrange a visit.
