My mum has been treated with dignity and respect from the beginning of her stay at Sonya Lodge. All the staff are friendly and courteous. They are all knowledgeable about mum. Her room is spacious, well decorated, clean and comfortable. Mum is well cared for and very well fed. The food at Sonya Lodge is amazing. I am very happy that my brother and I were lucky enough to find mum a place at Sonya Lodge.

I was so happy to arrive to visit my dad to find an entertainer singing, also getting the other residents stimulated enough for some of them to get up and have a dance. My dads sister and I had a very enjoyable afternoon with my dad, thanks again.

Sonya Lodge was recommended by an acquaintance whose mother had been a resident. From our first visit with my mother, and on visits to her during her five month residency, staff have been friendly, helpful and welcoming. Observing the interaction between staff and residents one can see the genuine care that is given which results in a genuinely happy atmosphere in the home.
Since my mother moved into Sonya Lodge we have had complete peace of mind that she is receiving the best possible care and know that we are kept completely in the picture with regards to every matters concerning her welfare. In my mother's words "I am content and couldn't be in a better place".

My mum has been at Sonya Lodge for 8 weeks now and has settled so well. I was racked with guilt at the decision that I could no longer support her in her own home but I needn't have worried at all. My mum is so happy and contented and well looked after. All the staff are very loving, caring and my mum gives them all a kiss. She has been taken out on lots of outings by the wonderful entertainment lady. I couldn't recommend this home enough. Mum is happy and I am not constantly worrying about her.

MY grandfather suffers with dementia. Sonya Lodge immediately gave me the feeling of security from the moment we first visited. It has a home from home atmosphere with incredibly skilled staff who can deal with the changing moods that dementia brings.
The residents come first at Sonya Lodge, they are treated like family and staff take the time to treat residents with dignity and genuinely care for the ingredients. Family are always encouraged to join in many activities and have an open visiting.

"We had visited many care homes prior to Sonya Lodge. The moment we stepped inside we got a home from home feeling. We were made very welcome and were given a guided tour round the home. Had a lengthy chat with Jean, the manager, we decided then and there that Sonya Lodge was most suitable for our relative. The dedication, care and support from Jean and her staff is second to none, and very supportive to the families as well. 3 and a half years on Iris is in very good health and very happy. Knowing that Iris is in a safe and secure environment gives us great comfort."

A message from the Manager
Hello, my name is Jean Wright and I’m the Manager of Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Wilmington, near Dartford. I have been working within this Home for over twenty years gaining a vast amount of knowledge and experience working at all levels within the teams. In 2006 I was delighted to be promoted to Registered Manager here at Sonya Lodge. I am very committed to my role and strongly believe in person-centred care, taking into account of everyone’s thoughts, needs and wishes to the highest level I can. It is paramount, not only to myself but all my colleagues, that our residents needs come first and foremost – learning about them as individuals by listening to both the resident and family members.
I fully understand how hard and heart-wrenching it is for a loved one to be placed in a Care Home such as ours. I feel it is very important to provide the best care available by inviting the families to visit the Sonya Lodge and oversee the care provided. Providing assurance is important to ensure their loved one transition to my Home is a smooth and caring as possible. It is my belief being honest, open and transparent is the only way forward in gaining trust for all those involved.
My carers are very committed to their role within my Home. Their dedication and caring nature enables a strong rapport to be built between both residents and families of their loved ones. I believe Sonya Lodge is the only Care Home in the area where staff do not wear a uniform. I strongly believe that promoting a non-uniformed environment allows all my residents to see all my staff as friends – after all this is their home.
We had a Tea Room built within our gardens which I am proud to say was officially opened by the Mayor of Dartford in September 2016 – aptly named ‘Forget-Me-Not’. This Tea Room is well used by both residents and families, whether it be a simple afternoon tea or a celebration of a birthday.
We have a full-time Activities Co-ordinator and she provides a vast range of activities, arts & crafts, reminiscence sessions, sing-a-long sessions and musical entertainment for our residents. We often visit the local church coffee mornings and utilise our Mini Bus by visiting the local garden centres, seaside towns and local places of interest.
We regularly receive feedback from our visitors to our Home; many thanking the staff for the care shown to their loved one, commenting how kind everyone is treating everyone within my home with respect and dignity. I am extremely proud of my home and my philosophy is that the Home does not belong to me or Nellsar, it truly belongs to each resident who resides here.
Please feel free to call me on 01322 289 768.
