Residential Care Home in Maidstone

Welcome to Lulworth House Care Home; a residential Home offering specialist person-centred care for elderly people diagnosed with dementia and related illnesses on either a respite or permanent basis.

Home from home

Our Home is situated in a pretty, leafy avenue on the outskirts of Maidstone and was built in the 1920s. Lulworth House has been extended and tastefully refurbished to provide spacious, light and airy accommodation whilst retaining many of the original features, character and charm. We encourage residents and their families to bring furniture and special belongings in to personalise their room and make a familiar home-from-home environment. It’s important that residents are made to feel relaxed and settled in their new surroundings, so our Housekeeping and Maintenance teams are always on hand to add those all-important special touches to each room.

The Home has spacious lounges and a dining room that leads out into a secluded garden which is used for alfresco dining. Our sunny garden conservatory overlooks the well-equipped and maintained gardens and our garden tearoom La Piazza, which is a wonderful place to socialise and enjoy a chat over tea and cake. It can also be used by residents and their families for private celebrations. There is plenty of choice of where to be, depending on if you want peaceful time alone to watch your favourite TV programme or to join in with one of the many activities that take pace daily within the Home.

Resident of the day

Person-centred care is at the heart of everything we do, and each team member has a vital role to play in the care and well-being of our residents.

Our resident of the day initiative helps us all to understand our residents’ likes, dislikes and the things that really make a difference to them. All team members, whether it’s our Carers, Nurses, Housekeepers or Maintenance, find out what’s important to each individual and give them the opportunity to select their favourite meal for Chef to prepare, choose an activity they’d like to do or add any special touches to their room. Family members are invited to be part of these reviews and we always give feedback when their loved one has been resident of the day.

Recreation and leisure

Our Recreation and Well-Being Team plans a full and varied programme of activities and outings to make sure everyone continues to partake in their hobbies, keep active and maintain their independence – all the while enjoying new pastimes and coming together to share fun and laughter.

Being close to Maidstone and in the heart of the Kent countryside, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to outings in our minibus and we enjoy regular trips to Leeds Castle, The Hop Farm, Moat Park and along the coast to take in some fresh sea air. We also enjoy wandering through the markets at Rochester, finding a bargain at the shops, indulging with a pub lunch or taking in a show or concert at our local theatre.

Back at the Home we have all manner of activities taking place each day; we love to be creative with some arts and crafts, relax and stretch with armchair exercises, and make a fuss of the Pet Therapy dogs and rabbits that come in to see us. We also have our own special guinea pigs (Bubble and Squeak) who share our Home and are so loved by residents and team members.

A shared Nellsar culture

As part of a group of Care Homes, we are extremely proud of our caring, supportive culture which embodies empathy, equity, professionalism and continuous improvement. Our shared values focus on the individual – from residents to team members – creating an inclusive environment with both residents and team members at the heart of what we do every day.

Wholesome homemade food

Nutrition and hydration are especially important for residents in our care, and we’re passionate about providing a first-class dining experience with delicious meals that cater for each person’s preferences and keep everyone well, both physically and mentally. Our Cooks use locally sourced ingredients to create wonderful home-cooked meals and snacks, and our residents are always involved in planning our menus.

We know that good nutrition supports good health, and Nellsar is one of the first Care Home groups to employ a dedicated Nutrition and Wellness Manager, Leni Wood, and hold regular Chef Masterclasses designed to support and coach our Cooks to help develop and share their knowledge.

At Lulworth House some of our Carers have also taken on the exciting role of Nutrition and Hydration Champions to engage residents with food-related activities such as smoothie making, preparing vegetables or baking.

Entertainment, events and the community

We welcome a variety of singers, musicians and entertainers as well as children from our local nursery; it’s wonderful to see our residents and the youngsters chat and play together – it’s real tonic for everyone.

Themed parties and events are something we have a particular flair for, and we never need an excuse to bring out the decorations and welcome family and friends to join in with the fun! Summer fetes, Christmas parties and cultural festivals are all celebrated which means there is always something to look forward to throughout the year.

It’s important for our residents to continue to maintain links with our local community so we attend church services and Salvation Army groups for those who wish to, to make sure everyone’s spiritual and cultural needs are met. We also fundraise throughout the year for charities close to our heart including Macmillan, Breast Cancer Awareness and the Anna Chaplaincy.

Dedicated Team Members

The Registered Manager, Catherine Singh, has been running Lulworth House since 2017 and is extremely proud of her dedicated team and the support they give to each and every resident. Catherine has an open-door policy and considers the Home to be one big family where residents are happy, and team members feel supported.

Our qualified team members have a robust training schedule to make sure we continue to provide the highest standards of person-centred care. Our Champion roles also allow team members to keep up to date with changes and implement best practice throughout the Home.

As well as caring for your loved-one, we also offer support to you, the family. We hold regular relatives’ meetings to discuss news and listen to your comments and suggestions, as well as offering a Relative Support Group for family members to share experiences and support each other.
