Dementia & Residential Care
Lulworth House is a Residential Care Home in Maidstone providing residential care for up to 38 people with a diagnosis of Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The 1920’s built home is situated in a pretty leafy avenue on the outskirts of the county town of Maidstone. The Care Home has been extensively and tastefully refurbished during 2014 to provide spacious, light and airy accommodation which retains much of the building’s original character and charm. The Home offers a high standard of well-equipped accommodation, some rooms having en-suite facilities and is staffed by a team of dedicated and highly skilled carers, supported by the Administrator, Activities Co-Ordinator, Housekeepers, Laundry, Onsite Maintenance Person and the Catering Team.
Lulworth House Residential Care Home residents are allowed to bring their own furniture with them when they move in, and we encourage everyone to make their room their own, with familiar personal items from home. The Home features specialist lifting and bathing equipment, lift access to all floors and wheelchair access throughout. We have a busy Activities timetable for those wishing to take part. We also organise regular external entertainers and we have our own Mini Bus to enable us to take trips out with small groups of residents. Lulworth House provides a varied, healthy and plentiful menu that is very popular with residents – catering for special diets and soft food diets.
As well as regular GP visits to the Home, residents can benefit from a range of Professionals who regularly visit the Home, including: Chiropodist, Dentist, Dietician, Hairdresser, Optician, Physiotherapist, Specialist Nurses and Speech therapist.
Nutritional Therapy
Nellsar is one of the first Care Home groups to employ a Nutritional Therapist and introduce individual consultations and Nutritional Champions across the Homes, putting the holistic and nutritional health of our residents first. A combination of nature and science, Nutritional Therapy “acknowledges the kitchen as the medicine cabinet” and is extremely important to the elderly, particularly those in Residential Care with Dementia or specific health conditions or illnesses.

My experience of Lulworth House has always been good and it has even got better over the years. At this time, the management and staff are excellent. I never cease to be impressed by the patience and dedication shown by the carers of the residents, sometimes in very demanding situations as the carers seem to remain, long term, which in itself is a good recommendation.

My mother deteriorated really quickly and on entering this home, has been really well looked after. The staff all do their very best in any way possible always happy and cheerful. The food etc is very good although mum is refusing to eat very much. The staff monitor her intake and encourage her to eat by supplying her with her favourite dishes and drinks. All in all, I have no complaints whatsoever.

The care manager is brilliant and outstanding in ever way. HP, daughter of resident, June 2017, Lulworth House Residential Care Home in Kent, Maidstone.
Mum settled well. She has made new friends and enjoys many of the activities arranged. The staff are always helpful, nothing seems too much trouble. Always met with a smile, and always an offer of a drink and biscuit on a visit. I myself work in partnership with Adult Social Services. In my opinion, Lulworth was definitely the right choice, knowing Mum was safe and well cared for. Importantly, having friends around her and having a bit of fun too.

A message from the Manager
Hello, my name is Catherine Singh and I am the Registered Manager of Lulworth House Residential Care Home. Situated on the outskirts of Maidstone, Lulworth House offers bright and spacious accommodation and has 38 single rooms, six of which have en-suite facilities.
I took up my position as Manager in December 2017 and have worked with my staff team to ensure that there is a strong family-orientated atmosphere and residents are made to feel at home. Person-centred care is central to the Lulworth House philosophy – ensuring that the needs of our residents are met is of utmost importance to us.
We run regular residents’ meetings, which give us the opportunity to receive feedback from our residents about the care they receive within our Home and any new suggestions they may have for activities and trips. It also gives them the opportunity to express their thoughts and preferences.
We have a full and exciting in-house activity programme and we employ three Recreation & Well-Being Champions who provide both group sessions and one-to-one activities for each resident throughout the week. They ensure that sessions are relevant and tailored to each individual.
Each week we have a variety of organised activities including exercise classes, musical sessions and arts and crafts, and we have regular events and entertainments to which all relatives are invited. We also have a sensory room, a monthly cinema club and a regular ‘pub afternoon’ for all residents. Our Well-Being Team are on hand to deliver one-to-one relaxation sessions, including massage or aromatherapy, which greatly improve the holistic health of our residents.
Lulworth House has its own minibus and we offer regular trips both locally and further afield, with residents choosing the places they would like to visit – often remembering their own past cherished experiences and re-visiting places they would like to see again.
We have a coffee shop for residents and relatives, where they can enjoy a coffee and cake, and this has proved very popular, especially during the warm summer months. We have also re-designed our garden, introducing raised beds to encourage residents who enjoy gardening to get involved in the planting and growing of flowers, vegetables and fruit.
We run a rigorous staff training programme to guarantee the high standards of care within our Home and ensure we are able to provide dignity in care. We also provide weekly one-to-one key worker sessions which help to build the relationships, trust and confidence between staff and residents. We place great emphasis on getting to know our residents and having a good understanding of their background and life history, as this enables us to personalise our approach for each individual.
Lulworth House also places great importance on the input and involvement of relatives and we hold regular relatives’ support meetings to provide much-needed support and contact with other relatives. Lulworth operates an open-door policy for all relatives and we always welcome and value the input in their loved one’s care.
