Latest Reviews from carehome.co.uk
The whole team at Sonya Lodge have made mum feel at home straight away and made me confident that she is safe and well looked after, which has put my mind at rest following my concerns and reservations about placing mum into a care centre.
AD, son of resident, November 2017, Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Kent, Dartford.
We have just lost our mum who was living at Sonya Lodge for the last two-years. We would like to thank all the staff for the care they gave our mum. So many care homes get bad reviews but mum’s care was wonderful. All the staff went above and beyond, even when she was rude to them. They just loved her and looked after her. We can’t thank them enough.

I am a retired vicar, in the course of 20+ years of ministry I had occasion to visit many retirement/dementia homes. Sonya Lodge is clearly the best I’ve come across, in the course of 3 yrs visiting a relative, EVERY time relative is treated with kindness, patience with clear evidence of professional standards being maintained (despite ‘someone’ often being grumpy). I cannot recommend the staff and facilities at Sonya Lodge highly enough. You might be surprised that I haven’t listed every facet as excellent in the review, they are in a very cramped location; but they make very good use of the space. For excellent, read ‘perfect’. For good, read ‘show me better’. Your relative would be cared for well here.

A calm, friendly environment with very professional standings. The staff do really care and are extremely efficient. I know that my mother is looked after and is safe. I believe we made the right decision when we chose Sonya Lodge as a care home.

My Mother has been in Sonya Lodge since January. All the staff are excellent treating Mum with respect. The staff always seem happy, which is great as they have, in my view, an extremely challenging job. Mum is fed very well and always looks clean and presentable. I would have no hesitation in recommending Sonya Lodge to anybody who has the horrible job of finding a good care home for someone with dementia.
SH, daughter of resident, July 2017, Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Kent, Dartford.
My father is well cared for in a warm, safe environment. The staff are always welcoming and friendly.

Like everyone, the decision to put my mum into a home was very stressful. My mum had always told me never to put her in a home which made it worse but all the staff at Sonya Lodge are so kind and caring. I feel 100% happy that my mother is safe and well looked after. They have lots of activities for the residents who wish to take part, the food is fantastic and the staff really do care. Mum is always getting lots of cuddles.

Thank you for looking after my dad. Sonya Lodge has become his home and residents and staff his family. Every time I visit I am amazed at the dedication of the care staff and the way they treat my dad as an individual and in dealing with this dreadful disease. I love the banter the staff have with him and the way he smiles and responds gives me great comfort to know there is still some parts of my dad that remind me of what he used to be like. The recent celebration of my parents 75th wedding anniversary at Sonya Lodge was very moving and I cannot thank the staff enough for making it such a joyous event.

The staff at Sonya Lodge are fantastic. They completely look after the residents 100%. Their stamina and enthusiasm is second to none, I can’t fault them.

Many of our family have had experience of care homes. All say this is one of, if not the best. Cleanest they have experienced.
JH, husband of resident, July 2017, Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Kent, Dartford.
The staff and management are professional and welcoming. The resident’s welfare is a priority, the staff ensure that medication is given as required and should there be a health issue promptly notify family members as well as requesting the doctor to attend to confirm a diagnosis and provide additional medication if required. Entertainment is provided and the occasional outing all of which is well received. Many thanks.
SR, daughter of resident, July 2017, Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Kent, Dartford.
My sister and myself find the home for Mum more than suitable. The staff are very caring and friendly. They treat her with respect and dignity. We are always asked when we arrive if we would like a hot drink.
JC, daughter of resident, July 2017, Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Kent, Dartford.
Pleased with mother’s treatment care. Always informed of any changes in health and well-being.
DL, son of resident, July 2017, Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Kent, Dartford.
My mother has been a resident at Sonya Lodge for 18months, we are very satisfied with her care. Residents, even when being difficult, are treated with patience and dignity. We regularly ask my mother if she is happy staying at Sonya Lodge and her answer is always positive. In her own words ‘I couldn’t be in a better place’.
SS, son of resident, July 2017, Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Kent, Dartford.
Staff – friendly and communicate well. Always inform me by phone of any change in my granddad’s wellbeing. Staff are always the same, minimal agency (if any) and so I am reassured that the carers know my grandad and his needs. Sometimes toilets/tables are not clean but this is hard to keep on top of with residents with dementia.
SS, granddaughter of resident, July 2017, Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Kent, Dartford.
I visited and researched many care homes for my elderly Mum who has dementia. It was a very hard decision to make as I knew I was taking away her independence but it had become necessary for her safety. I called on Sonya Lodge one afternoon without an appointment and after being shown around by the manager I knew immediately it was the right place of care for Mum. The staff are very caring and friendly. Mum receives excellent care, she is very happy there and enjoys getting involved with the various activities.
HJ, daughter of resident, June 2017, Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Kent, Dartford.
My mum has been treated with dignity and respect from the beginning of her stay at Sonya Lodge. All the staff are friendly and courteous. They are all knowledgeable about mum. Her room is spacious, well decorated, clean and comfortable. Mum is well cared for and very well fed. The food at Sonya Lodge is amazing. I am very happy that my brother and I were lucky enough to find mum a place at Sonya Lodge.

I was so happy to arrive to visit my dad to find an entertainer singing, also getting the other residents stimulated enough for some of them to get up and have a dance. My dads sister and I had a very enjoyable afternoon with my dad, thanks again.

Sonya Lodge was recommended by an acquaintance whose mother had been a resident. From our first visit with my mother, and on visits to her during her five month residency, staff have been friendly, helpful and welcoming. Observing the interaction between staff and residents one can see the genuine care that is given which results in a genuinely happy atmosphere in the home. Since my mother moved into Sonya Lodge we have had complete peace of mind that she is receiving the best possible care and know that we are kept completely in the picture with regards to every matters concerning her welfare. In my mother’s words “I am content and couldn’t be in a better place”.

My mum has been at Sonya Lodge for 8 weeks now and has settled so well. I was racked with guilt at the decision that I could no longer support her in her own home but I needn’t have worried at all. My mum is so happy and contented and well looked after. All the staff are very loving, caring and my mum gives them all a kiss. She has been taken out on lots of outings by the wonderful entertainment lady. I couldn’t recommend this home enough. Mum is happy and I am not constantly worrying about her.
VL, daughter of resident, May 2016, Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Kent, Dartford
MY grandfather suffers with dementia. Sonya Lodge immediately gave me the feeling of security from the moment we first visited. It has a home from home atmosphere with incredibly skilled staff who can deal with the changing moods that dementia brings. The residents come first at Sonya Lodge, they are treated like family and staff take the time to treat residents with dignity and genuinely care for the ingredients. Family are always encouraged to join in many activities and have an open visiting.

“The care my mother is receiving is first class. She settled very well and considers herself very lucky to be with people that care for all her needs, both personal and company with people that care. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Management team are very knowledgeable and helpful.”
JH, relative of resident, January 2015, Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Kent, Dartford
“We had visited many care homes prior to Sonya Lodge. The moment we stepped inside we got a home from home feeling. We were made very welcome and were given a guided tour round the home. Had a lengthy chat with Jean, the manager, we decided then and there that Sonya Lodge was most suitable for our relative. The dedication, care and support from Jean and her staff is second to none, and very supportive to the families as well. 3 and a half years on Iris is in very good health and very happy. Knowing that Iris is in a safe and secure environment gives us great comfort.”

A message from the Manager
Hello, my name is Jean Wright and I’m the Manager of Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home in Wilmington, near Dartford. I have been working within this Home for over twenty years gaining a vast amount of knowledge and experience working at all levels within the teams. In 2006 I was delighted to be promoted to Registered Manager here at Sonya Lodge. I am very committed to my role and strongly believe in person-centred care, taking into account of everyone’s thoughts, needs and wishes to the highest level I can. It is paramount, not only to myself but all my colleagues, that our residents needs come first and foremost – learning about them as individuals by listening to both the resident and family members.
I fully understand how hard and heart-wrenching it is for a loved one to be placed in a Care Home such as ours. I feel it is very important to provide the best care available by inviting the families to visit the Sonya Lodge and oversee the care provided. Providing assurance is important to ensure their loved one transition to my Home is a smooth and caring as possible. It is my belief being honest, open and transparent is the only way forward in gaining trust for all those involved.
My carers are very committed to their role within my Home. Their dedication and caring nature enables a strong rapport to be built between both residents and families of their loved ones. I believe Sonya Lodge is the only Care Home in the area where staff do not wear a uniform. I strongly believe that promoting a non-uniformed environment allows all my residents to see all my staff as friends – after all this is their home.
We had a Tea Room built within our gardens which I am proud to say was officially opened by the Mayor of Dartford in September 2016 – aptly named ‘Forget-Me-Not’. This Tea Room is well used by both residents and families, whether it be a simple afternoon tea or a celebration of a birthday.
We have a full-time Activities Co-ordinator and she provides a vast range of activities, arts & crafts, reminiscence sessions, sing-a-long sessions and musical entertainment for our residents. We often visit the local church coffee mornings and utilise our Mini Bus by visiting the local garden centres, seaside towns and local places of interest.
We regularly receive feedback from our visitors to our Home; many thanking the staff for the care shown to their loved one, commenting how kind everyone is treating everyone within my home with respect and dignity. I am extremely proud of my home and my philosophy is that the Home does not belong to me or Nellsar, it truly belongs to each resident who resides here.
Please feel free to call me on 01322 289 768.
