Care Home in Kent, Deal

Welcome to St Winifred’s Care Centre in Deal on the Kent coast; a specialist Nursing and Residential care home providing person-centred care for residents on either a short-term or permanent basis.

A welcoming home

Over the years our original building has been extended into the 53 bed Home it is today, with spacious rooms and modern yet traditional design throughout.

Our Home Manager is supported by a team of highly trained Nurses, Carers and team members, all of whom have a unique part to play in supporting our residents and offering person-centred care. Many of our loyal team members have worked at St Winifreds for over 10 years. We wholeheartedly understand that our residents do not live in our workplace, we work in their home.

Every effort is made to make our residents feel welcomed and relaxed no matter how long they are staying with us. We encourage residents and their families to personalise their rooms by bringing in photos, personal belongings and those extra special knick-knacks to create a familiar and homely environment. No job is too big or too small to help new residents settle in and our Housekeeping and Maintenance teams are always happy to help add those special touches.

Relax and socialise

During the day, residents come together in our lounges to spend time enjoying hobbies and activities, or catching up with family and friends who are always welcome to join us for a meal, or an outing or day trip.

We make good use of our garden and getting outdoors; our decking area is a real sun-trap, perfect for enjoying some al fresco dining when the sun shines. For the gardeners amongst us, there are spaces for residents to exercise their green fingers by growing and tending to the plants and flowers.

Recreation and leisure

Our Recreation and Well-Being Team take time to really get to know all about our residents’ interests and hobbies to create a calendar of events and activities throughout the week. No two days are the same and you’ll often find us being creative with arts and crafts, playing darts, having a flutter on the horses or relaxing with some gentle exercises. We also love nothing more than a good singalong, so we’re visited regularly by some fantastic entertainers and performers. We’re close to several local primary schools and it’s always a treat when the children come in to perform for us. It’s wonderful to see the interaction between the generations and their shared fun and laughter.

Being just a stone’s throw from the coast, we’re able to take in some fresh sea air with a stroll along the pier before stopping off at the local shops, cafés and restaurants. And being at the seaside means that fish and chips are always on the menu of course! For our sea-fairing residents we arrange speedboat trips with the Dover Sea Safari (using ‘wet-wheel’ wheelchairs) and fishing trips off the coast of Deal.

As part of a group of Care Homes, we are extremely proud of our caring, supportive culture which embodies empathy, equity, professionalism and continuous improvement. Our shared values focus on the individual – from residents to team members – creating an inclusive environment with both residents and team members at the heart of what we do every day.

Delicious home-cooked food

Mealtimes are an important part of our day and a social occasion for residents to chat over a glass of wine or beer while enjoying wonderful home-cooked dishes. Our Catering Team creates menus based on the specific preferences of our residents and use local, quality ingredients to offer choice and variety every day. In our main dining room, we also have a ‘Hydration Station’ with a choice of juices and cordials for residents to help themselves to throughout the day.

Special celebrations

Throughout the year we celebrate special days and occasions – from Christmas and Remembrance Sunday, to Easter and Pancake Day! Our Summer Fete is always a huge success and brings residents, team members and families together for a fun-filled day of food, entertainment, games and fundraising for charities close to our heart. We also make sure our residents are the centre of attention for birthdays and special anniversaries…we never need an excuse for cake and decorations!

Our ‘Resident of the Day’ initiative helps each member of the team understand our residents’ likes, dislikes and the things that really make a difference to them. All team members whether Carers, Nurses, Housekeepers or Maintenance find out what’s important to each individual and give them the opportunity to select their favourite meal for our Chef to prepare, choose an activity they’d like to do or add any special touches to their room. Family members are invited to be part of these reviews and we always give feedback when their loved one has been Resident of the Day.

We look after every aspect of the personal care and well-being of our residents and arrange visits from hairdressers, chiropodists, speech therapists and other visiting professionals that may be needed.

We’d be delighted to welcome you to visit us anytime and we’re always on hand to answer any questions you may have. Please feel free to contact us on 01304 375 758 or email admin.stwinifreds@nellsar.com
