Also, Maidstone has hosted a large Army barracks since Napoleonic times and was an important centre for Kent’s brewing and papermaking industries. Famous faces from Maidstone include Tony Hart (most famous for the art show “Hartbeat”); Carol McGiffin (former “Loose Women” presenter); Mackenzie Crook (famous for playing “Gareth” in The Office and starring in two Pirates of the Caribbean movies).

Teapot Island is a great place to visit to stroll along the banks of the River Medway in Maidstone, before stopping for a break in their onsite café. Sit outside in their garden and enjoy the wildlife, or simply look around their exhibition of over 4,000 teapots! They make great gifts and are available to buy. Mote Park

Mote Park in Maidstone is a very popular place for visitors and locals because of its huge green open spaces, beautiful landscapes, tranquil setting and Café. Mote Park has existed as an entity since the 13th Century and has been owned by many people including the royal family and the founder of Royal Dutch Shell oil company. Now spanning over 180 hectares, the park is freely accessible to the public and is an ideal location for the whole family. Rochester Castle

Strategically placed astride the London Road, guarding an important crossing of the River Medway, the imposing fortress that is Rochester Castle has a complex history of destruction and rebuilding. Today it stands as a proud reminder of the history of Rochester along with the cathedral and cobbled streets. The Brook Theatre

The Brook Theatre is situated in Chatham’s Old Town Hall, a thriving arts centre where you can explore theatre, dance classes, gallery exhibitions and arts workshops. The 400-seat auditorium offers professional theatre, community productions, jazz and folk evenings, a children’s Christmas show and Medway Comedy Club, while the regular Studio Showcase evenings offer a more intimate theatre experience. Kent Life is one of Kent’s premier heritage farm attractions with a number of stunning Kentish gardens to explore, and it boasts the last coal-fired Oast House in the country.
