The 3.29am effect: why do menopausal women wake up at the same time every night?

An early wake-up call

Are you perimenopausal and experiencing waking up in the night? It seems you are not alone and 3:29am is the time that many women tend to wake up according to a study carried out last year.

Here is an outline of the study taken from the Mammoth website:

Dunelm conducted a survey of 2,005 perimenopausal and menopausal women on International Menopause Day, finding that most respondents reported waking up at 3.29am, around four hours before the average alarm goes off at 7am.

For the 13 million people going through the menopause, insomnia can be one of the most common symptoms. 69% of those asked said not being able to sleep at night was damaging their emotional well-being.
