Around the world with Nellsar Cruises

Armchair travel is ever popular with our residents at Nellsar Care Homes and we regularly whisk them off (virtually!) to far-flung destinations including Europe, Asia and the Caribbean.

We immerse our residents into the essence of these countries with tasty themed menus, fun quizzes and entertainment throughout the day. And while it looks like global travel could be restricted for a long time as the pandemic continues, what better way to sample the delights (and safety!) that virtual travel has to offer?

Viv Stead, Recreation and Well-Being Manager for Nellsar, devised a wonderful adventure for our residents with destinations a-plenty throughout Spring-Summer 2021. The global tour begins this Friday (12 February) in Hong Kong, as we celebrate Chinese New Year.

The Recreation and Well-Being Teams in our Homes are already on-board with the idea and have been busy making passports with our residents. Our Chefs have created yummy menus for this Friday’s lunch including ‘beef and broccoli in black bean sauce served with noodles’, ‘Chinese chicken curry served with special fried rice’ and ‘banana fritters in cinnamon syrup’.

Ahead of the Cruise-launch, Viv Stead emailed our staff teams to get them excited for the first Nellsar Cruises destination:

Good afternoon passengers and crew!

So the countdown begins; two days to go until we start our epic virtual adventure! Passports ✔ Vaccination ✔ Spirit of Adventure ✔

Seven fabulous countries to visit from Hong Kong to India, to France and Italy; whatever the destination it’s going to be a blast so get your sea legs on – it’s going to be epic!

A little bit about your ship before we depart!

The Admiral of the fleet (Martin) The Captain (Gill) and the Deck Hand (me) will be ready to launch this Cruise which begins on Friday when we will be in Hong Kong celebrating Chinese New Year. We need to launch this ship in style so look out for some guest appearances of the team! Glenda is the Ship’s costume manager!

I’ve seen some amazing things being prepared already for Chinese New Year; outfits, hats, fortune cookies, food tasting, Chinese takeaways – what a lovely way to start our Cruise.

2021 is the year of the Ox and dependability, strength, diligence and determination is how the Ox presents. Much the same as us!

It would be nice to get some relatives involved too; let’s face it – we all need a break and some well-deserved sunshine and fun, so postcards and photos a-plenty.

Over and out for now!
