The Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walks are a series of sponsored walks held in September and October across the UK. Every year, thousands of incredible people come together to walk to raise awareness and funds for the charity, remember or support a loved and look towards a future where dementia no longer devastates lives.
This month, two of our Nellsar Homes enthusiastically took part in Memory Walks for this important cause and raised money with every step – helping to fund vital dementia support and research.
Abbotsleigh Care Home
On Saturday 9 September residents, staff and loved ones at Abbotsleigh walked their own Memory Walk, starting at the front door of their Home and making the long sunny walk (under refreshing tree cover!) down their lovely drive.
Some of their staff proudly wore their turquoise Alzheimer’s t-shirts and helped friends and family push residents in their wheelchairs so they could enjoy the walk too. Sun hats were at the ready and smiles were abundant! The walk was followed by some well-deserved refreshments in their garden.
They were delighted to raise £330 for the Alzheimer’s Society and want to say thank you to all the family members and friends who joined them on their big walk!
Princess Christian Care Home
On Sunday 10 September, an enthusiastic quartet from Princess Christian Care Home made up of Christine, Carol, Abbi and Jordan travelled to sunny Windsor to take part in the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk event taking place, dressed in their matching blue t-shirts and colourful Hawaiian skirts!
The team said the atmosphere was amazing and it was an eye-opener to see so many people walking for loved ones. They brought lots of cheer with their bright outfits and although it was very warm, they sang and danced their way around the 6.5 km course!
Activities Manager Christine commented, “It felt quite emotional crossing the finishing line all together, knowing that we have helped raise money for such a worthy cause.”
To date the team have raised a fantastic £440 and the donations are still coming in.
