Supporting Student Nurses across Nellsar Care Homes

A caring culture of support

Nisha Leo, our Care Home Manager at Princess Christian Care Home in Woking, Surrey, believes that supporting student Nurses to become competent Registered Nurses is of the utmost importance in the field of nursing. Each of our Nurses plays a vital role in complementing the clinical nursing team by bringing fresh perspectives, up-to-date knowledge, and a strong desire to learn and grow.

“Nellsar recognises this importance and is committed to providing support and guidance to student nurses, including those from overseas, to help them become fully competent Registered Nurses. By doing so, we ensure that they are well-prepared to become competent and compassionate Nurses who can provide high-quality care to our residents. We believe that investing in the education and training of student Nurses not only benefits them but also elevates the standard of care within our Homes, creating a win-win situation for all.

Meet Sushila, originally from Nepal, and now a dedicated Nurse at Princess Christian. She recently successfully cleared her OSCE exams and became a qualified Registered Nrse. Sushila’s experience was transformative, and she attributes her success to the support of her OSCE Training Team. OSCE Training Manager Paula Persaud and her team’s dedication and personalised guidance were instrumental in Sushila’s success on the OSCE exam.

Nellsar’s collaborative and welcoming environment allowed Sushila to thrive, fostering a sense of belonging and growth. This life-changing experience has equipped Sushila with the skills and knowledge she needs to embark on a fulfilling nursing career, and she is immensely grateful to the Nellsar team for their invaluable support.

Providing the right mentoring and continuous training is crucial in ensuring the well-being and satisfaction of our colleagues and the quality of care provided to our residents. At Nellsar, we offer extensive mentoring and training programs for student Nurses, including mentorship from experienced nurses, continuous education, and access to the latest healthcare information and training.

These initiatives empower our colleagues to excel in their roles, stay updated with best practices, and provide the highest level of care to our residents. By investing in our staff’s development, we create a positive and fulfilling work environment and, most importantly, ensure that our residents receive the best possible care, making their lives more comfortable and enjoyable.”

Sushila (pictured above) comments:

“As a member of Nellsar’s Nursing Team, I am grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. A two-week face-to-face practice session with an OSCE trainer contributed significantly to my success on the OSCE exam. We received personalised guidance, oversight, and a high level of attention to detail throughout this experience.

A key element of my success was my dedicated OSCE trainer, RN Paula Persaud. Throughout the process, she provided me with unequivocal support and outstanding assistance, enabling me to recognise and correct even the tiniest errors. I couldn’t have achieved my goals without her dedication.

As well, I would like to thank the entire Nellsar team for creating a welcoming and supportive environment. As a result of this collaborative environment, I was able to learn and grow, feeling like I belonged and being encouraged.”
